Candlelight Vigil for Lawrence “Larry” King

 Lawrence "Larry" King Candlelight Vigil
Wed, February 20, 2008
Starts at 7pm (Arrive by 6:45)
Blackstone and Shaw, Fresno

While we are all shocked and angered by this tragic event, we feel it is necessary to remember and mourn the life of a young boy who was taken much too soon. As a lot of us in the LGBTQ community know-violence against us is something that we are always aware of. However, it is always especially troubling and scary when youth are harmed, or in this case, killed at school. School is a place for learning-children should be safe.

So we are asking that you come out and remember a boy, whose apparent crime was that he was just too feminine. And while we are angered and confused about the student who did committed this crime-we must not use this vigil to express anger. We are asking that if you do bring signs-bring signs that are positive. Bring signs that speak of change and not of negativity.

We can only guess that the student that committed this crime was ignorant to the issues of LGBTQ youth, ignorance breeds fear, fear breeds hate, and hate breeds violence!!!

Thank you all and I hope see you all out there!!!
