Stonewall Democrats Monitor McCain

The Stonewall Democrats sent out a report today detailing some recent comments by John McCain concerning the rights of LGBT Americans.

ImageYesterday, on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, John McCain had this to say about adoption by same-sex couples: "I want to help with family values."
In an interview with The New York Times last week, John McCain this is what he said on the same subject:
Question: President Bush believes that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt children. Do you agree with that?
Mr. McCain: I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no I don’t believe in gay adoption.
Question: Even if the alternative is the kid staying in an orphanage, or not having parents.
Mr. McCain: I encourage adoption and I encourage the opportunities for people to adopt children I encourage the process being less complicated so they can adopt as quickly as possible. And Cindy and I are proud of being adoptive parents.
Question: But your concern would be that the couple should a traditional couple
Mr. McCain: Yes.

In less than 100 days our fellow Americans will walk into polling booths in large cities and small towns across this country to choose our next President.

What they may not know is that their vote – and the outcome of this election – has long-term ramifications the for security and safety of their LGBT friends, family member and neighbors. It is our responsibility to educate our fellow Americans – LGBT and straight – about the differences between Obama and McCain on LGBT issues, and explain what their respective Administrations would mean for our freedom and our families.

Stonewall Democrats is preparing action tool-kits that our local chapter leaders and advocates will use to register, educate and mobilize an unprecedented number of LGBT and allied Americans on behalf of the Democratic agenda. However, we need your help to get this information to our contacts across the country.

Your contribution of $250 would cover the cost to deploy an additional action tool-kit to our local leaders developing new chapters and networks in Albuquerque, New Mexico or Kenosha, Wisconsin. Your contribution of $100 would help send a tool-kit to LGBT advocates in Atlanta, Georgia or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where we are already on the ground in battleground states. A gift of $50 would cover the cost of shipping additional tool-kits to advocates in Reno, Nevada or Terre Haute, Indiana.

Please take a moment to donate towards our momentum. With less than 100 days left, our time to act is now.

Thank you,
