KVPT Movie Screening

Image KVPT, Valley Public Television, is hosting a special viewing and discussion of the PBS documentary Anyone and Everyone. A preview of the film can be viewed at www.anyoneandeveryone.com.

The event will be held at the new Unitarian Universalist Church on Chestnut and Alluvial on January 25th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. That evening KVPT would like to invite interested organizations to host an informational table to offer resources to the community. We would also like to hold a panel discussion with representatives from the community.

Anyone and Everyone is a moving documentary of American families’ most heart wrenching and heartwarming moments.  Connected by having a son or daughter who is gay, parents across the country discuss their experiences in the documentary Anyone and Everyone. In it, filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz depicts families from all walks of life. Individuals from diverse backgrounds, such as Japanese, Bolivian, and Cherokee, as well as religious denominations—Mormon, Jew, Catholic, Hindu—share intimate accounts of how their children revealed that they are homosexual. The parents also talk about struggling with the pain their sons and daughters have dealt with, such as not being accepted by relatives and friends, and being ostracized by religious congregations. The driving point of the documentary is that the families featured really could be “anyone and everyone.” This is an issue that does not discriminate, as families with gay children come from all classes, races, religions, levels of wealth, and they all experience similar emotions.
