John McCain – Reformed Maverick

ImageI didn’t decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to be President. I was sixty two years old when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize.John McCain (Excerpt from his book, “Worth Fighting For: A Memoir” 2002)

UPDATED ON SEPT 12 – MORE ON SECOND PAGE

After a major Sarah Palin media love fest last week, things have begun to focus on the unprecedented lies being spread by the McCain-Palin ticket. It’s quite something to see unprecedented lying being spewed by the Republican ticket after 8 years of the most dishonest and anti-American administration in our history. Calling McCain and Palin liars is not a matter of opinion, it’s a matter of fact that anyone with an internet connection can look up.

There are two truly astounding and bewildering facts about John McCain and his campaign. First is this self declared “maverick” has done a complete 360 on all the principals which allowed him that honor. Something remarkable happened, something quite provable and clear for anyone who can research and think.  McCain, in a nosedive of a campaign, morphed into someone else, coming out with a platform more to the right than GW. In order to become President, McCain reversed everything he stood for and went after the Republican base, a group of Americans so afraid of evolution and truth, that they simply deny it, both literally and figuratively.

Second is how McCain and his campaign continue to use lies to rally their base. The links in this article detail some of this. They continue to wave the red, white and blue and speak in such generic Americana, that they literally say nothing.

The re-election of GW back in 2004 was as far as I thought American conservatives would go to maintain a flag waving, truth defying fantasy. After 8 years of disastrous Republican control, I assumed the party would try a different tactic. I thought they’d explain they realized the mistakes they’d made, that they no longer were interested in micro-managing personal lives by restricting civil rights and certainly that they weren’t going to continue endorsing an illegal and disastrous war which is killing our economy and moral standing in the world.

In addition to McCain abandoning his principals and pandering to those Americans least interested in the truth, everything spoken at their convention was fantasy, misdirection and accusation. It’s astounding. Republicans are like mental patients who refuse to take their pills. What motivates this group of Americans toward the destruction of everything this country stands for is a mystery. Fortunately, McCain’s embarrassing transformation is not. Video and the internet now ensure that we can track a person’s words. Whether it will make a difference to American conservatives, who can’t seem to evolve in any way, is another mystery. Given their lack of integrity, I’m not holding my breath, but for what it’s worth, here’s at least some of the truth, as it applies to John McCain.

UPDATE 091208: The BS just keeps pouring out of McCain, Palin and their campaign.

McCain was on “The View” today and failed miserably in the truth department once more. While he “respects” other points of view, he doesn’t respect them so much that he won’t overturn Roe VS Wade. While he “respects” other religions, he feels Christianity is the code for all Americans. He lied about Palin and earmarks, and he lied while dodging the “lipstick on a pig” attack ad on Obama. While the ladies asked tough questions, they refused to follow up and call him outright on his pathetic responses and demand that he admit the lies. And of course, he played up, the help from “The View”, his prison camp experience, which we all know has nothing to do with the election, it’s just a tool to make Americans tear up and vote for him.
