If you thought Pastor Jim Franklin and Fresno’s Cornerstone Church was done after marriage equality was the law… THINK AGAIN!
Earlier this month, the church hosted “Ex gays” “Ex lesbians” and Ex transgender” speakers. Encouraging pastors, church leaders, parents, grandparents, individuals who are concerned about the “indoctrination of our children”.
This type of event has no place in our city.
Church conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, is a harmful practice that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. It is often based on the false belief that being LGBTQ is a mental illness that needs to be cured.
There is no credible evidence that conversion therapy is effective. In fact, there is a growing body of research that shows that it can be harmful to LGBTQ youth. Studies have found that conversion therapy is linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide.
Conversion therapy is also based on the false premise that being LGBTQ is a sin. This can lead to internalized homophobia and self-hatred among LGBTQ youth. It can also make it difficult for them to form healthy relationships and to feel safe and accepted in their communities.
If you are an LGBTQ youth who has been subjected to conversion therapy, it is important to know that you are not alone. There are many resources available to help you, including the Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.
It is important to remember that you are not broken. You are a beautiful and perfect just the way you are. There is nothing wrong with being LGBTQ, and you deserve to be loved and accepted for who you are.
